Notes: After seizing its first-ever SWC baseball title, Tech is anxious to advance that additional step past its NCAA Midwest Region finals appearance against Stanford in 1995. The Red Raiders presented coach Larry Hays with his 1,000th career win in a game at Texas-Arlington and the school with a season-record 51 wins in 65 games. Slugging Tech topped the nation with a .344 batting average last year and promises similar results this year behind all-America 3B Clint Bryant (second in SWC behind graduated teammate Jason Totman at .435) and a seasoned pitching staff. U.S. Olympic tryout Matt Miller (11-3) joins junior lefty Jeff Peck ( 10-3) as one of the top starting tandems in the SWC. Tech's last two teams have finished 91-32.
