Notes: Coach Steve Smith's second Baylor edition expects to be improved in all areas as the Bears prepare to make a giant leap into the baseball-powerful Big 12 Conference in 1997. Winner of two SWC crowns and three postseason tournaments historically, the Bears have a fine tradition with NCAA activity as recently as 1993. A member of that team, 2B/OF Marty Crawford, again spearheads the BU efforts after hitting .350 or better in both 1994 and 1995. Baylor's pitching, which carried the Bears to a 19-8 start in 1995, again could be a strong point. Relief ace Mathtew Marcom should receive help from a number of newcomers while Baylor continues to search for a power source after hitting 23 team homers during the last two seasons.
