Comments

Interesting game. Texas scored 5 runs without getting any extra-base hits. They did hit 7 singles and topped those off by stealing 7 bases. Chad Blessing, who played with the Horns from 1993-95 (mostly at third base), transferred to HBU this year and is their starting first baseman. He popped up his first at-bat and then walked the next three times he got to the plate. He's doing very well at HBU (hitting .397 going into tonight's game) and it was fun seeing him again. He's obviously well liked by the team he left behind...he stood out near the mound for several minutes after the game ended talking with his ex-teammates and getting a pat on the back from Coach Gus.

  • Texas:
    • Harkrider singled to right.
    • Campbell hit a sacrifice bunt to move Harkrider to 2b.
    • Harkrider stole 3b while Byers was at the plate.
    • Byers walked.
    • Peoples grounded out to 3b, moving Byers to 2b.
    • Layne flew out to cf. The ball went about 390 feet and barely stayed in the park.
• 2nd inning
  • HBU stranded Copes at 1b. Copes reached 1b on a check swing single. He was trying to get out of the way of the ball which hit his bat and popped over the infield into shallow rf.
  • Texas stranded Davis (who walked) at 2b and Salinas (who singled to lf) at 1b.
• 3rd inning
  • HBU stranded Buckley and Blessing (who both walked) at 2b and 1b, respectively.
  • Texas scores two unearned runs and steals 4 bases:
    • Campbell led off with a walk and then stole 2b during Byers' at-bat.
    • Byers singled to cf.
    • Campbell tried to reach the plate on Byers' hit but was gunned down by the relay throw (8-4-2).
    • Byers stole 2b during Peoples' at-bat.
    • Peoples walked.
    • Layne hit a little dribbler toward the pitcher who then overthrew 1b. On the error, Byers came all the way around to score and Peoples advanced to 2b.
    • Escamilla then hit into a 6-4 fielder's choice, moving Peoples to 3b.
    • During Davis' at-bat, Escamilla and Peoples executed a perfect double steal...scoring Peoples and moving Escamilla to 2b.
    • Davis went down swinging to end the inning.

    • Scott doubled to rf.
    • Wilson walked.
    • Copes hit into a 6-3 double play (which moved Scott to 3b).
    • Cochran went down swinging.
  • Texas:
    • Salinas hit a single to lf.
    • Keith hit a high-bouncing infield single between ss and 3b. By the time the ball came down, Keith was already on the bag and Salinas was at 2b.
    • Harkrider hit a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners.
    • Campbell hit a sacrfice fly to cf that scored Salinas and advanced Keith to 3b.
    • Byers hit another infield single (nearly identical to the one hit by Keith earlier in the inning) to score Keith.
    • Peoples grounded out to 3b.
• 5th inning
  • HBU:
    • Bennett grounded out to 2b.
    • Holland hit a single to lf.
    • Buckley singled to cf.
    • During Blessing's at-bat, Escamilla dropped a pitch and Buckley (at 1b) broke for 2b, forcing Holland to break for 3b. Holland was caught in a 2-5 rundown and Buckley was safe at 2b. He then reached 3b on a wild pitch.
    • Blessing walked and then stole 2b during Curtis' at-bat
    • Curtis went down swinging.

    • with a 3-0 count against Escamilla, HBU sent Enders in to pitch.
    • Escamilla then went down swinging.
