Comments

Texas pitching came through again. And, with a little help from a 2-rbi homerun from Peoples, the Horns pulled out another win.

Barker had a bit of a shaky outing. He's been out with injury problems and came on in the top of the 5th for his first appearance since March 16th. He got Bennett to ground out but then walked the next two batters before he was replaced by Adare.

Game summary:

  • Tech:
    • Clapp flew out to lf.
    • Kastelic walked but was picked off almost immediately by Weaver.
    • Bryant gounded out to 3b.
  • Texas stranded Harkrider (who singled) at 2b.
• 2nd inning
  • Tech went down in order.
  • Texas:
    • Escamilla doubled to lf.
    • Layne grounded out to 2b...moving Escamilla to 3b.
    • Salinas reached on a fielder's choice as Escamilla made a baserunning error and was gunned down at home (5-2).
    • Davis grounded out to 1b.
• 3rd inning
  • Tech stranded Bennett (who walked to get on) at 2b.
  • Texas went down in order.
• 4th inning
  • Tech scored two unearned runs:
    • Kastelic walked.
    • Bryant singled up the middle...moving Kastelic to 3b.
    • Weaver faked a pick-off throw to 1b and then threw the ball in the dirt to Salinas at 3b. Salinas couldn't catch the ball. Kastelic scored and Bryant moved to 2b on the error.
    • Dillon grounded out to ss...moving Bryant to 3b.
    • Ruecker hit a sacrifice fly to lf to score Bryant.
    • Lindstrom grounded out to 3b. Salinas made a great diving catch to stop the ball and then jumped up and make the throw to Peoples in time to make the out.
  • Texas answered with three runs (one of them unearned):
    • Byers was hit by a pitch to lead off.
    • Peoples hit a towering homerun that hit the scoreboard about two-thirds of the way up.
    • Escamilla was called out on strikes.
    • Layne reached on an error by Clapp (2b) who booted the ball. It should have been a very routine play for Clapp. It looked like he took his eye off the ball to check Layne's progress and lost track of the ball.
    • Salinas singled past the ss.
    • Davis singled to lf to load the bases.
    • Tech sent Ward in to replace Brewer.
    • Kiemsteadt was called out on strikes.
    • Harkrider walked to score Layne.
    • Campbell hit into a fielder's choice at 3b (Bryant stepped on 3b to record the final out).
• 5th inning
  • Tech:
    • Texas sent Barker in to replace Weaver at the top of the inning.
    • Bennett grounded out to 3b.
    • Martinez walked.
    • Davis walked.
    • Texas sent Adare in to replace Barker.
    • Clapp hit toward 3b and into a double play. Salinas stepped on 3b to get Martinez and then threw to 1b in time to get Clapp.
  • Texas went down in order.
• 6th inning
  • Tech went down in order.
  • Texas went down in order.
• 7th inning
  • Tech:
    • Texas sent Keith in at lf and Braswell at 3b.
    • Ruecker flew out to cf.
    • Lindstrom singled to rf.
    • Texas sent French in to replace Adare.
    • Bennett flew out to lf. Great catch by Keith.
    • Martinez went down swinging to end the game
  • Texas did not have to bat.
