Comments
O'Dell, Hinojosa, and French combined for a great game this evening.
They didn't walk a single Tech batter and at one point, O'Dell retired
11 in a row. Offensively, Texas capitalized on both of Tech's errors
for three unearned runs.
There were three great defensive plays made in lf. First, Kastelic
charged a hard hit ball by Harkrider in the 4th to rob him of a single.
In the top of the next inning, Davis made an amazing play to end a
potential rally by Tech. He dove to the ground at the last possible
second and caught a ball hit by Kastelic in the very tip of his glove.
In the 8th, Keith made a play nearly identical to Kastelic's in the 4th
to rob Bryant of a single. And, to round out the great defensive plays
in the outfield, Byers made a running-at-full-speed grab in the 6th on
a line drive hit by Dillon.
Game summary:
- 1st inning
- Tech jumped out to a quick lead:
- Clapp singled to right.
- Kastelic doubled to lf to score Clapp.
- Bryant hit a sacrifice fly to rf to advance Kastelic to 3b.
- Dillon singled to rf to score Kastelic.
- Ruecker flew out to cf.
- Dillon stole 2b during Lindstrom's at-bat.
- Lindstrom hit a shot to cf that bounced off Kiemsteadt's glove
to score Dillon. Lindstrom ended up at 2b and Kiemsteadt was
charged with an error. Unearned run.
- Chiprez went down swinging.
- Texas quickly tied things up:
- Harkrider led off with a double down the rf line. (He doubled
and eventually scored to lead things off in both of the games
against Houston last Saturday as well.)
- Campbell reached on an error as Ruecker (ss) booted a ball hit
straight at him.
- Byers bunted safely toward 3b to load the bases.
- Peoples faught off several pitches but ended up popping up
softly to 3b.
- Escamilla singled to lf to score Harkrider.
- Salinas walked. Easy rbi. Unearned run.
- Davis grounded out to 2b to score Byers. Another unearned run.
- Kiemsteadt went down swinging
- 2nd inning
- Tech went down in order.
- Texas scored another unearned run:
- Braswell grounded out to ss.
- Harkrider hit a single up the middle.
- Harkrider advanced to 2b on a passed ball.
- Campbell grounded out to 2b...moving Harkrider to 3b.
- Byers tried bunting down the 3b line again. Harkrider scored as
the pitcher fielded the ball and overthrew 1b. Byers ended up on
3b on the error. Unearned run. According to the official scorer.
I think I would've scored a hit and an error because the throw to
1b would've been very close and I don't think they could've thrown
Byers out even if the throw had been on target. But, I'm not the
official scorer so I guess it doesn't matter, eh?
- 3rd inning
- Tech went down in order.
- Texas stranded Davis (who singled to get on) at 1b.
- 4th inning
- Tech went down in order.
- Texas stranded Campbell (who singled and then stole 2b and 3b) at 3b.
- 5th inning
- Tech stranded Davis (who singled and then stole 2b) at 2b.
- Texas:
- Peoples led off with a walk.
- Escamilla doubled down the lf line moving Peoples to 3b.
- Salinas singled (high hit ball that landed in the gap between 2b,
cf, and rf) to score Peoples and move Escamilla to 3b.
- Davis grounded out to 2b to score Escamilla and move Salinas to 2b.
- Kiemsteadt singled...moving Salinas to 3b.
- Tech replaced Miller with Ralston.
- Braswell walked on 5 pitches to load the bases.
- Tech replaced Ralston with Stewart.
- Harkrider hit into a fielder's choice (4-6, Braswell out) to score
Salinas. Unfortunately, Kiemsteadt tried to catch Tech sleeping as
they tried to turn the 4-6-3 double play. Tech was wide awake,
though, and Lindstrom applied the tag at home to end the inning. So,
Tech got the double play...it was just a bit unorthodox...4-6-3-2.
- 6th inning
- Tech:
- Bryant flew out to cf.
- Dillon was out on a line drive to rf.
- Ruecker singled up the middle.
- Lindstrom singled to advance Ruecker to 3b.
- A balk was called on O'Dell as he faked a throw to 3b and then threw
to 1b. Ruecker scored and Lindstrom advance to 2b.
- Chiprez flew out to rf.
- Texas:
- Campbell grounded out to 2b.
- Byers flew out to cf.
- Peoples singled to lf.
- While Escamilla was at bat, Peoples was caught stealing (2-4).
- 7th inning
- Tech stranded Davis (who reached on an error and stole 2b) at 2b.
- Texas:
- Escamilla singled up the middle. He was then picked off on a great
throw from the catcher to 1b.
- Salinas was called out on strikes.
- Davies popped up to shallow rf.
- 8th inning
- Tech:
- Texas replaced O'Dell with Hinojosa and replaced Davis with Keith
in lf.
- Tech then went down in order.
- Texas stranded Kiemsteadt (who led off with a single) on 1b.
- 9th inning
- Tech:
- Lindstrom led off with a single up the middle.
- Chiprez reached on a 3-6 fielder's choice.
- Tech sent Price in to pinch run for Chiprez.
- Martinez was called out on strikes.
- Davis singled to lf to advance Price to 2b.
- Texas replaced Hinojosa with French.
- Clapp went down swinging (for the 4th time) to end the game.
- Texas did not have to bat.
