The Horns jumped ahead in the 2nd on Kiemsteadt's 2-rbi homerun over the 405 sign in the lf gap. Rice replied with 4 runs in the top of the 3rd. Joseph struck out, Fuller walked, and Richards and Venghaus hit singles to load the bases. Berkman then cleared them with a double. Landry sent Berkman home with a ground-rule double to nearly the same spot. Adare got out of the inning by getting Cathey to ground out to ss and striking out Ford. In the bottom of the inning, Harkrider singled, Campbell walked, Byers bunted safely, and Peoples walked to score Harkrider. Rice brought Allen Brown in. Layne then grounded out to 1b and pushed Campbell across. Escamilla grounded out to 2b to score Byers and move Peoples to 3b. Salinas walked and Kiemsteadt grounded out to 3b to end the inning.
Texas scored 3 runs in the 4th...all with two outs. The inning started off with Edelstein grounding out to 2b. Harkrider went down on a called third strike. Campbell then hit a single to right. Byers hit a triple to score Campbell (Ford came within an inch or two of catching Byers' triple but couldn't quite get it). Peoples then hit a 2-rbi homerun over the rf fence. That was his second homerun in as many games. Layne popped up to ss to end the inning.
Rice threatened to come back in the 5th. Venghaus struck out and Berkman reached on an error by Campbell who tried to charge a high bouncing grounder but missed the ball which rolled out to rf. Berkman reached 2b on a wild pitch and Landry walked. With a 2-0 count to Cathey, Texas replaced Adare and had Clements (who pitched to one batter last night) come in. Berkman then made the 2nd out of the inning on a rather unusual play. Clements picked Landry off. Landry had nowhere to go since Berkman was on 2b. Berkman hesitated a moment and then broke for 3b. Peoples saw him break and rather than get Landry in the run down, he threw to Salinas who tagged Berkman. Landry went on to 2b on the play. Cathey then walked (the walk was charged to Adare). Ford hit an infield single to get on...the runners couldn't advance. Davis flew out to cf to end the threat. In the bottom of the 5th, Escamilla flew out to cf. Salinas hit a ground-rule double to the cf/rf gap. Kiemsteadt singled to move Salinas to 3b. Edelstein then hit a sacrifice fly to rf to score Salinas. Brown hit Harkrider to put him on base and then Campbell hit into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
Byers started off the bottom of the 6th by flying out to cf. Peoples walked and Layne hit a double to score Peoples. Escamilla hit a single to lf and Layne advanced to 3b. Braswell (who'd replaced Salinas at 3b in the top of the inning) bunted down the 1b line. Rice caught Layne in a run down (3-2-5-3) to get the second out. Escamilla advanced to 3b and Braswell to 2b during the run down. Escamilla then scored on a passed ball. Kiemsteadt grounded out to 3b to end the inning.
