Comments

Maine's starting pitcher, a Freshman named Pete Fisher, did a very good job. He had two balks (the first one on a designed Longhorn play where the runner at 3b tries to get the pitcher to jump and the second quite by accident as the pitcher had started his motion when he saw the catcher do something that made him stop) but I imagine that's the sort of thing that goes away with time and experience.

Leon got the win for Texas after having a very bad outing in relief in this afternoon's game against OU (he faced 5 batters, failed to retire any of them, and ended up with 3 earned runs). In this evening's game, he pitched a 1-hitter in 6 innings of work. Nice comeback.

Offensively for the Horns, Loeffler finally got a nice solid hit. He's been a little tentative since his return to the lineup but it looks like he's on the way to getting back to normal. He still looks a little tentative running the bases as well. He's got a big brace strapped around his right leg so it's hard to tell how much of the problem is caused by that. Speaking of being on the right track, Campbell is really getting back into the flow of things. He went 12 for 18 with 5 walks in the last four games. Apparently, switching Harkrider to leadoff and Campbell to 2nd in the batting order has sparked just the right combination for the Horns. I'm actually starting to look forward to conference play with a little less dread. Hook 'em!
