Comments

Today's game was weird. That's the best way I can think of to describe it. Weird.

The Sooners threatened to come back late in the game but it didn't prove to be enough. They did not look very good at all as they allowed Texas to score 7 unearned runs and made several baserunning errors. In the first, Zepeda walked and moved to 2b on Hill's sab. He moved to 3b on Shackelford's 1b. Shackelford was then caught off base so Zepeda decided to make a break for home and got caught at the plate (1-3-4-2). It didn't look like a designed play. In the second, Gonzalez grounded out to ss and Flores hit a single. Massey then hit safely. They both advanced on an error. Hansen then reached on a fielder's choice...not your average FC, though. Flores was caught off 3b and made the second out in a run down (6-2-5-2-6). The third out came as Zepeda hit a single to left. Massey tried to make it all the way home but couldn't beat Keimsteadt's throw in from lf. The Sooners got one more out at the plate when Hill hit into a double play (Peoples tagged the bag and threw to Klam who tagged the runner from 3b) to put an end to the Sooner's 3-run 6th.

As for the Horns, their first run was scored on a wild pitch...the second on an error. In the 3rd, Peoples hit a double. Layne grounded out to 1b. Escamilla walked. Kiemsteadt flew out to lf. On the play, Escamilla sprained his ankle and fell to the ground between 1b and 2b. Left fielder Brown ran all the way in and tagged Escamilla to get an unassisted double play. The 4th inning rolled around and Salinas hit a single to lf. He made the first out as Loeffler reached on a fielder's choice. Harkrider then grounded out to 1b. Campbell reached on an error and then stole 2b. OU starter Shackelford then proceded to walk Byers, Peoples, and Layne (giving him an easy rbi). Escamilla then hit a single up the middle. The center fielder, apparently trying to find out where he'd have to throw, lifted his head and missed the ball which rolled past him all the way to the fence. The bases were cleared and Escamilla, despite his very sore ankle, made it all the way around to score as well. Five unearned runs in the 4th.

Escamilla stayed in the game for a couple of innings after he fell but it was obvious his ankle was bothering him. He didn't play in the evening game but it's hoped he'll be healthy enough to play once conference play starts up next weekend.
