Comments

The Horns took their first 3-game series of the season. Yippee!

Texas jumped ahead early and stayed there...until the 6th when UT-Arlington tied it up. UT went up by a run in the bottom of the inning, though, and never looked back.

Some of the bright spots in today's game:

• Harkrider reached every time he came up to the plate with two walks and four singles (two of them bunts) and he scored 5 runs
• Layne hit another 3-rbi homerun over the right field fence...his third in two days
• Barker threw 8 strikeouts in the game which was one more than his total on the year (7 in 20 innings pitched prior to today)
• Leon managed to limit UTA to three batters per inning for the final three innings
• Barker and Leon both picked off runners at crucial points of the game...Barker in the 5th with runners at 1b and 3b to get the first out of the inning and Leon in the 7th to get the last out of the inning and shut down UTA's hopes for a comeback

One last note about the position switching done by UTA in the 6th and 7th. It appeared that Smith hurt his throwing hand or arm slightly during the 6th. The coach and a trainer came out and talked to him for a minute and then had Smith switch positions with Wilson. When Smith was due up to bat in the 7th, a pinch hitter was sent in...causing a couple more position switches in the field. There was no word on the seriousness of Smith's injury.
